Research Overview
My research develops underwater-acoustic methods to understand and safeguard the marine soundscapes of the Taiwan Strait. I deploy passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) and design automation and forecasting algorithms that combine nonlinear dynamics (chaos theory) with deep learning and generative-AI techniques. Applied to long-term soundscape records, these tools reveal the biotic, abiotic, and anthropogenic drivers of variability and support rigorous noise-impact assessment. In the context of Taiwan’s rapid wind-energy expansion, I quantify how pile driving, survey and construction vessel traffic, and turbine operations reshape coastal soundscapes and ecology. Current projects span: (1) underwater acoustical remote sensing (PAM networks), (2) big-data/AI automation, (3) long-term time-series trend analysis, and (4) policy-relevant impact assessment.
My work has been published in leading journals, including Communications Earth & Environment (Nature Portfolio), Ecological Indicators, Remote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Marine Pollution Bulletin, and Chaos. One of my articles was featured in Nature Climate Change’s Research Highlights. During my postdoctoral fellowship, I received the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Outstanding Academic Performance award (2023).
