Medium Cavitation tunnel

Medium Cavitation Tunnel

The cavitation tunnel was designed by Kempf & Remmers. The tunnel was established in 1996. It has a closed circulation water tunnel that can adjust the pressure in the tunnel.

Technical Specifications of the Test Sections

The cross section of the test section is 50cm × 50cm.

Test section length 2200 mm.

The maximal speed is up to 11.68m/s.

The experimental pressure of the tunnel can be adjusted from 20 to 170KPa.

The dynamometer is the H39-33 type designed by Kempf & Remmers in Germany. It has the ability to adjust the inclination angle. It can be tilted forward by 8 degrees and tilted back by 12 degrees. The dynamometer can measure the axial thrust, torque and vertical force of the propeller. Equivalent components, measurement types and ranges are: axial thrust ±1000N, torque ±50N-m, vertical force ±200N and maximum speed ±30rps.

This dynamometer can measure the inclined axis angle of less than 10 degrees for the 25cm diameter test propeller, so that the real performance of the speedboat inclined axis propeller can be displayed, and the vertical force generated by the inclined axis can also be measured, which can be accurately measured bearing force.

In order to observe the cavitation on the surface of the blade when the propeller is running, the dynamometer can use a stroboscope and a synchronous shutter to take pictures of the cavitation on the surface of the propeller blade with a CCD camera or a high-speed camera.

Main functions of this tunnel :

  • Open Water test
  • Cavitation test
  • Cavitation inception Test
  • Hydrodynamic test
  • wake measurement

This tunnel can also be used for research and development of various underwater vehicles.
